JOHNSON, William

No.G/3468, Private, William JOHNSON
Aged 42

1st Battalion, The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment)
Died of TB on Sunday, 19th March 1916

William Johnson seems to be the man who was born in 1874 in Peckham, Surrey (Saint Olave Southwark Q3-1874 1D:216) Mother n&ecute;e KNIGHT).

A lot more research needed as there were several William Johnson born in Peckham around the same time and event those with service records available can be easily mixed up. There are two even in this same regiment at the turn of the century, either of which may be our man.

He enlisted in Deptford while resident in Bermondsey.
His sister Ellen HALPIN is named as sole legatee in the Register of Soldiers Personal Effects. .

William Johnson is buried in Ingham (St Bartholomew) Churchyard, grave A:4
